Burmese New Year Festival

Burmese New Year is here. Melbournians, coming up on Saturday 11th of April is the celebrations for Burmese New Year. This is taking place at 2pm-7pm, at Aline Burgess Hall at the Noble Park English Language School (21-35 Thomas St, Noble Park). Admission is free. There will be traditional foods, performances and dancing on offer.

Unlike Chinese New Year, Burmese New Year is based on the Buddhist calendar, and coincides with other South East Asian festivals like Songkran in Thailand. The Burmese community is one of Melbourne's fastest-growing, yet one that most people know little about. Here's your chance to get acquainted and see in the new year (which is the year 1371 if you were wondering).
